Like all Stewardship programming, Forestry stewardship sees humans as part of creation that have a unique God-ordained role in managing living things and resources according to his way and will. The current program was founded in 1997 by members of the North Bronx Mennonite Owner Church and friends who began to advise Camp on sustainable practices informed by work on community forest management by Dr. Chuck Peters (see this history). Projects 10% Inventory -- from 1998-2000 approximately&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Forestry Stewardship<\/a><\/strong> &mdash; a sub-category of Land Stewardship &mdash; manages the 369 wooded acres of Camp through growth and species diversity monitoring, selective harvest of saw timber, and timber stand improvement yielding firewood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Asset Stewardship<\/strong> manages the physical plant, equipment, and human resources of Camp in ways that display our love for God and people and that use wealth resources according to the principles of the Kingdom of God.  This includes taking care of the historical and modern buildings of Camp, maintaining our working equipment and work areas, and taking great care of people and the various things they contribute to our community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Energy Stewardship<\/strong> &mdash; a sub-category of Asset Stewardship &mdash; works for sustainability in Camp&rsquo;s energy use, specifically with a focus on local renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency. Current projects include <a href=\"https:\/\/campdeerpark.org\/es\/kb\/firewood\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Firewood is used by Camp Deerpark for campfires and heating via the Wood Doctor Outdoor Wood Boiler (OWB). It is sources from Standing Deadwood and TSI Trees (Timber Stand Improvement) found and flagged by Maintenance or Forestry Stewardship Team personnel. Typically, the wood for heating is cut, hauled in, split and stacked by youth &amp; adult Volunteer Groups in the Fall and Winter and stored in the Wood Doctor cover connected to The Sugar Shack. Campfire wood may be made from construction sources or brought in by Volunteers or Maintenance personnel. Information and Specifications Storage for Heat Wood: the Wood&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Firewood<\/a> harvesting for our Outdoor Wood Boiler (OWB) system, replacement of traditional tanked water heaters with condensing on-demand units, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/campdeerpark.org\/es\/kb\/promise-center-solar-project\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Promise Center Solar Project is a 22.31 kWp solar array installed on the roof of the Promise Center at Camp Deerpark as part of our Stewardship Initiative. The project was funded by a donor contribution in combination with NYS and Federal solar incentives and will save Camp as much as 7,000 in electrical costs over the next twenty years* -- in addition to avoiding the emission of an estimated 3750 tons of CO2.&dagger; Even if Camp had financed the project out-of-pocket, this would represent a cash savings of ,000 while taking advantage of the environmental sustainability of renewable energy. The Camp is located on Grounds composed of 395 acres with spacious lawns and mountain forest outside the village of Westbrookville in the Town of Deerpark in the Shawangunk Mountains in Orange County NY.
