Camp offers retreats to churches, youth groups, and ministries year round in a lodge, cabins, and motels and hosts 5 weeks of Summer Camp in July and August. The Camp is located on Grounds composed of 395 acres with spacious lawns and mountain forest outside the village of Westbrookville in the Town of Deerpark in the Shawangunk Mountains in Orange County NY. Camp is a&hellip;\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Camp Deerpark<\/a>. A few hours after her birth in June 2007 Nadora fell into the old pool. Sean McConaghay observed her mother Ono looking highly upset and ran down to help. Upon arrival he climbed into the water saving Nadora&rsquo;s short life. In Spanish the word for swim is nadar. The name Nadora is derived from the female version of swimmer. Bernice was born July 2008. A few weeks after her birth the right to name her was sold at our Home-coming Auction. In a tightly contested bidding war the five Smith brothers outbid the Freedom Farmers with a price of $280. Bernice is named after the Smith&rsquo;s grandmother who had passed away earlier in the year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the <strong>wood boiler <\/strong>was installed in 1981 Camp Deerpark has burned approximately <strong>1225 cords of firewood<\/strong>. If the wood were stacked on the Camp Deerpark basketball court, the wood pile would be almost 50 feet high. It would have required 165,375 gallons of fuel oil to provide the same amount of heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>white ash tree<\/strong> near the gazebo, standing 85 feet tall and 42&frac12; inches in diameter, is the <strong>largest tree<\/strong> at Camp Deerpark. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 30 to July 2, 2017 Camp Deerpark hosted Evangelical Garifuna Church Manhattan who brought <strong>178 guests<\/strong>, setting the record for the <strong>most guests on a weekend<\/strong> at Camp Deerpark. With 117 beds, at least 61 people slept on the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maple syrup operation has produced <strong>674 gallons of syrup<\/strong> from1997 to 2018 with the 62 gallons in 2008 being the highest yield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>steel pipe handrail<\/strong> on the steps leading to the motels was constructed using the black pipe <strong>golf course flag sticks <\/strong>left in the rafters of the lawn and garden shed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The first resident staff <\/strong>living at Camp Deerpark were <strong>Newton and Elsie Beiler<\/strong>. Their bedroom was what is now the office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between <strong>40 and 45 white pine trees <\/strong>are required to build one <a href=\"https:\/\/campdeerpark.org\/es\/kb\/promise-woods\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Promise Woods is an area of Camp including the Promise Center meeting space and timber-framed Cabins to the North East of Main Camp. It is reached by taking Promise Woods Road out of the main parking lot past the Children&rsquo;s Forest. If the cut wood were laid end to end it would stretch 2 miles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The concrete floor in <a href=\"https:\/\/campdeerpark.org\/es\/kb\/hemlock-pavilion\/\" target=\"_self\" title=\"Hemlock Pavilion is a large octagonal pavilion open on six sides with the fireplace and concrete floor. It was built in 2004 as a volunteer work project by Forest Hills Mennonite Church. For much of the pavilion's life up to this point, it has served as a storage area for wood products related to the A Time To Build Camper Cabin Construction Project.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">Hemlock Pavilion<\/a><\/strong> was poured by 8th graders from the Bruderhof Community under the generous supervision of Al Schock, owner of Peenpack Sand and Gravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>50 species of birds<\/strong> were identified by Scott Reichert at camp during one week in May, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>rock walls<\/strong> at camp were built as the first <strong>farmers cleared rocks <\/strong>from the fields.
