Policy Meeting Needed: Neighbor and Community Use of Grounds

We need to meet about what neighbor and community use of the grounds should look like. Current uses under consideration:

• Neighbor use for hobbies and personal interests: i.e. treasure hunting (metal detecting) and use of the basketball court.
• Community use of the grounds through rental of areas for deer hunting purposes.
• Community use of the grounds for outdoor sports like disc golf and mountain biking.

The tension in this area relates to balancing the needs and preferences of guest groups and risks to Camp against the need to love neighbors and community and be seen as a positive force civically and a witness of Jesus. See core value 1 on Mission and Values:

To every person that comes on to the camp grounds including summer camp children, weekend retreat guests, individuals on personal retreat, and the garbage truck driver.

Neighbors and community
Government authority
By fostering Christian community
We want to be an organization that takes the lead in resolving conflicts, opening communication, and strengthening relationships.

The Administration approved the same Hunting plan for Fall/Winter 2024 as 2025. The West Woods (Mehr Parcel) will be closed to hiking, Forestry, and all other activities West of Brandt Rd except for hunting purposes and emergency access from October 1 till Jan 1, 2025.

In the future, we hope this decision will be made through community discussion.
