Promise Center Solar Project
Promise Center Solar Project is a 22.31 kWp solar array installed on the roof of the Promise Center at Camp Deerpark as part of our Stewardship Initiative. The project was funded by a donor contribution in combination with NYS and Federal solar incentives and will save Camp as much as $107,000 in electrical costs over the next twenty years* — in addition to avoiding the emission of an estimated 3750 tons of CO2.† Even if Camp had financed the project out-of-pocket, this would represent a cash savings of $20,000 while taking advantage of the environmental sustainability of renewable energy.

Cost Savings
- Current year electrical cost savings: $4050.00
- Estimated annual electrical service cost increases: next 3 years = 6%; 2.8% per year US 25-year average.
- TOTAL ESTIMATED 20-YEAR CASH SAVINGS: $107,000
Carbon Savings
- Cumulative Energy Generated 4/24-8/25: 31.56 MWh
- 37,500 Lbs CO2/yr prevented.
- TOTAL 20-YEAR CO2 SAVINGS: 750,000 Lbs CO2 (3750 Tons CO2)
- Equivalent Trees Planted: 14,423◆
- Removing carbon emissions from electricity for 4 US households.◆
For Camp, the center of our Stewardship philosophy is love God first with everything you have, then love others as yourself. As a smart, money-saving investment that multiplies the value of a donor gift and goverment incentives, this project will increase the resources available for ministry by significantly lowering the electrical costs for the Promise Woods village (at least an 86% reduction). Additionally, by saving significant carbon emissions, we are seeking the long-term thriving of our neighbors and future generations.
Project Budget
| Project Costs | $79,100 |
| Donor Contribution | $44,000 |
| Federal Incentives | $23,730 |
| State Incentives | $5,577 |
| Camp Out-of-pocket | $5,793 |
| Estimated Electrical Cost Savings* | $107,000-$125,000 |
*Based on current electrical charges and projected cost growth over the twenty years the array will operate with optimal efficiency. Electrical prices may change and the array may produce power for well over twenty years causing real savings to vary. Cost savings calculation of $107,000 is based on projected electrical price increases of 6% over the next 3 years, the 2.8% US 25-year average. If inflationary pressure — due to factors like increase data center demand — causes electrical prices to rise at 5% annually, Camp will save $125,000 over 20 years.
†Estimated from statistics collected from our array’s SolarEdge dashboard which gathers data while monitoring our power inverters.
◆Tree-planting equivalent calculated based on figures from AFoCO Carbon Tree Calculator. Household carbon emissions calculated based on EPA figures of 8,744 Lbs CO2 per year per household.

Time to Pray
As followers of Jesus, he is our example in everything. When Camp says in our mission statement that we are “a community of Christ” – this is what we’re saying: we’re a group of people dedicated to the purpose of following and being like Jesus. So the question is, how do we follow Jesus as…
A Place of Prayer
Prayer — especially “vertical prayer” for specific God-revealed mission set apart from the concerns of our life and ministry — is a major theme for Camp in 2026. Maybe you read about this in the Winter Newsletter article “Time to Pray“? We want to extend the invitation to the entire Camp community and beyond —…
Living Abundantly Retreat
Jesus promised his followers an abundant life. Is that just an abstract idea to distract us from earthly misery, or is there real power in Christ to live a full and rich life in the here and now? Young adults are navigating a challenging landscape as they start “adulting” and building a life, so we’ll…
Forgiving Debts: 2025 Woodcutting Season
When Jesus taught his disciples to pray (Mt 6:9-15), he described two big realities where “thy Kingdom Come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven” are realized in the human world: First, he said “give us this day our daily bread”, acknowledging that God’s provision for human need is a central…
“How Do I Donate?”
Recently, a thirteen-year-old guest at Camp asked Operations Director Kevin Smith, “how do I donate?” Kevin was honestly a little surprised, but was happy to see this young member – who was on retreat with one of our owning churches — taking some initiative. Kevin directed him to the website Donate page, and the young…
The Discipleship Down-Low
Defining Discipleship 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded…
The Virtuous Wife
This past weekend, Camp hosted three women’s retreats at Camp. Though the retreat groups were very diverse in background – one was from an urban church plant in Philadelphia, one was from a Garifuna Mennonite church in Brooklyn (an Afro-Caribbean Culture), and one was from a multi-ethnic faith community reaching out in North Jersey. Though…
A Life of Service
I believe the most important thing to God is not our personality, knowledge, or talents, but our availability. How willing and ready are we to respond when He calls, and how ready are we to do what He says? What use to the Lord are people who could do what he wants with excellence and…
Building Belonging
At our February NYC LMC District meeting, we’re discussing the Belonging phase of The Journey Map. In this first phase on the map, individuals and groups on a spiritual journey begin the process of connecting to each other and evaluating the place they may have in each other’s lives. Have you ever been an outsider…
