bbPress

bbPress is a forum or discussion board plugin for the WordPress CMS. This software powers the Threads section of Camp’s website where we post logs related to operations tasks and have team discussions with our staff and volunteers.

Tips for posting to Threads:

  • Pick the appropriate forum to categorize your thread. Here are some simplified forum definitions:
    • Buildings — anything on the operations of buildings including their repair and maintenance involving their actual structure (floors, walls, roof, etc.).
    • Equipment — machines and systems installed in buildings, on the grounds, or independent such as tools and heavy machinery.
  • Tag your threads. This allows threads to be collated and linked across the forum and other site areas such as Knowledge Base. At the very least, all threads should be tagged to correspond to a KB entry such as a building, a piece of equipment or system, a project, an area of the grounds, etc.
  • Mention related pages in the Knowledge Base (KB) by simply writing their name exactly as it appears in the KB entry title. The system will auto-link the first occurrence of the title almost anywhere on the site including in a thread. For example: Spruce Lodge.

Useful Documentation and Links

  • bbPress Codex: complete documentation for the plugin
    • Shortcodes List — use these to publish information and interfaces from the forum anywhere in WordPress. (Use bbp-single-tag id=$tag_id with a numeric tag id to publish a list of threads using a particular tag. Get the $tag_id in “Topics > Topic Tags” in WP Dashboard by examining the URL of the tag’s link, ex: “…/wp-admin/term.php?taxonomy=topic-tag&tag_ID=49&post_type…”)
