After the Larkin LCA662AB motor failure after freeze-over, the Walk-in Cooler was over-temp, only achieving 46F on a regular basis. Checking the sight-glass on the Tecumseh AJB7465AXD Compressor revealed a trickle of liquid refrigerant at the bottom, indicating a likely low charge situation. Several service techs were called, but Blueline Mechanical was the first to respond with a tech (Rick and Joey) on 8/11/24. The confirmed a low charge situation.
Since the refrigerant was not known (compressor is spec’d for obsolete R12, and some notes from 2011 indicated “R414B” or “R414”), it was decided to de-charge the system, pull a new vacuum, and recharge with R134a — a product compatible with old R12 systems.
During this process, a small leak was found related to a loose valve core on the suction side charging port. Also, the caps for the charging ports where replaced due to one having a second gasket (possible indication of past failure).
