Stewardship Principles

Stewardship Principles describes how Camp’s community will apply our discipleship to Jesus to our spheres of influence and shared and personal resources. Sphere’s of influence mean this principles should be applied to our relationships and areas of responsibility in life. Shared and personal resources means this principles should be applied to thoughts, attention, time, energy, wealth, and property whether held by individuals or community.

GLM

GLM is an acrostic to help the community remember the three principles of Stewardship: God’s, Love, and Most.

God’s

Stewardship begins with the acknowledgement that everything is God’s and belongs to him (Psalms 24:1). This includes people (Ezekiel 18:4), the land (Leviticus 25:23), and therefore all resources derived from the Earth. Therefore, everything (our thoughts, our time & energy, and our resources) should be managed according to God’s will — his design and how he wants things — and for his glory — so people know him and experience his goodness. This is established the Kingdom of Yehovah and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33).

Love

God is love (1 John 4:7-21), and how he wants things can be summed up by love: love God with everything, and love the people around you like you love yourself (Matthew 22:37-40). Therefore, everything should be managed for the good, well-being, and blessing of God, others, and ourselves in that order. This requires us to consider people and all things as gifts from God (John 3:16, James 1:17) that we in turn give to each other (Matthew 10:8) and ourselves according to their God-given identity and purpose.

Most

Because everything is God’s and he gives to us in love, everything should be managed for the most benefit to God, others, and ourselves (Matthew 25:14-30). This means caring for ourselves and our resources in a way that values the grace they can provide, distributes that grace to the most lives, and multiplies and maximizes that grace through wisdom.

What Are You Tapped Into?

By Ben Cheek | February 21, 2025

Yesterday we began tapping maple trees, officially opening maple syrup making season at Camp Deerpark! Last year, the transition kept us from producing syrup, so it feels great to be back to it. Starting off, however, has been a bit of a challenge since things are pretty arctic around here. The entire ground is covered…

What Does it Mean to be Spirit-Led with Pastor Mark Perri

By Ben Cheek | January 19, 2025

One small contribution I can make is to share story with you. This could be valuable in several ways: First, I’m coming to the Mennonites from the outside — from non-denominational GenX “simple/ organic/ emergent church“. Sometimes people coming from outside-in have a helpful perspective for those trying to move from inside-out. Second, as an…

Winter: Life Under the Surface

By Ben Cheek | January 11, 2025

On the surface, winter with its cracking and cold seems like the enemy of life. Everything sleeps as though dead, and Camp — quiet and empty — sits waiting. But under the surface, winter is revealed to be a friend to life, not an enemy. In the deep frost, God opens the soil for Spring’s…

What is A Mission Statement?

By Ben Cheek | December 4, 2024

On the LMC NYC District call this month, Dr. Tiffany shared critical information on what is and what is not a mission statement. This is critical as we think about moving the congregations in our district forward towards mission, optimize the mission already underway, and align together on the LMC mission as district churches. The end of this week (Black Friday) marks the beginning of the Christmas season for many. (Though the big-box retailers had stuff out before Halloween, can you believe it!?!) For our culture, this season is a time of Joy. We gather for feasting and presents and the delighting of children. And despite the growing chill…
