The Journey Map
The Journey Map is an allegorical framework for Discipleship-Through-Mission that helps groups and individuals:
- position themselves on their spiritual journey
- discern what actions are critical
- learn and practice essential skills
- manage change towards greater incarnation of Jesus and manifestation of his Kingdom both inwardly into our souls and outwardly into the world.

The Three Lands
the land of
Belonging
Do I feel I have a place with Jesus and his people and do they belong in my story?
Can we be a part of this change, and can this change be a part of our life?
the land of
Becoming
How do I become the person who I want to be in Christ and what is he causing my situation to become?
How can we grow into the kind of people who can bring this change through our unique calling?
the land of
Believing
Where is Jesus leading me to manifest his Kingdom, exercising and demonstrating increasing faith?
Where will we manifest this change for others to experience and to what extent will they take it with them?
Seven Positions
The Map includes seven positions and two transition zones.

capacity

5. Flow

new people and places
to enter the story

Meta
The Journey Map was developed as a tool for discipleship and missional community by the UnusualKingdom community of practice. It was built from the foundation of The Way of Jesus framework for the life and ministry of Jesus, which allegorically identifies key movements for communities and individuals on a spiritual journey. Skills and activities were then developed to contextualize the allegory to missional-discipleship, especially in post-church and post-modern contexts.
The Journey Map is being used as part of Camp Deerpark’s Discipleship & Leadership Development Initiative: life-on-life practice to grow believers to be like Jesus and live advancing the Kingdom by their gifts, so young and old alike are fully empowered to serve Christ at Camp, in the city, and beyond. We use this framework for children’s ministry, staff ministry training, and leadership development.

How Do You Define Mission?
When somebody says “I’m on a mission”, what do you think of? If the word is said in church, what is the first thing that comes to mind? You may think of someone clutching a Bible in a jeep jostling down jungle roads. Or you cold be thinking of a caring staff at an remote…
A Special Request for Baby Vivian
Serving God, while the greatest of blessings, is no guarantee that everything will go well in life. Tragedy, difficulty, and suffering can find any of us at any moment, and when it does, the people of God are essential in helping us navigate the valleys of shadow with Jesus by our side. Ben Gosnell came…
You Can Always Come Home
In the pursuit of mission, I’ve moved around a lot as an adult. To be perfectly honest, I haven’t found a place since Mom and Dad’s house that I felt was mine — a place I could call home. If you find yourself longing for home, you’re in some pretty good company. It says in…
Map Makers Project
Camp is a big place and we have some big plans. But this raises a big question: Just where is everything? In the past, we asked around and maybe somebody would know. Now, we’d like to get all that information down on a map. We’ll use it to maintain the grounds, plan maintenance projects, and…

Homecoming $20k Match: Investing in Camp is investing in each other!
When someone gives a gift to Camp, they’re not just supporting our organization. Their gift is actually an investment in the life of our community of churches. Signs and The Summer Camp High
Some people talk about “The Summer Camp High” as if it’s not real. I have to admit, I did too. It’s an easy target: people come back buzzing with energy and excitement and ready to be really spiritual and maybe even change the world. But by the time school starts again, where has all that…
